Training FAQ’s:

Why should I train my employees? In California, sexual harassment prevention training for supervisors is now required by law (AB 1825). Employers with 50 or more employees are required to train supervisors every two years in the area of sexual harassment prevention. The year 2007 is a compliance year. California law requires the trainer to be highly experienced and extensively trained. Critically, courts have also held that training employees in the area of sexual harassment prevention may reduce liability in the event of a lawsuit. More importantly, training in various areas of employment law, including harassment and discrimination prevention, is an inexpensive way to: · Prevent legal claims from arising in the first place; · Show an employer's good faith commitment to a fair and equal workplace; · Improve morale; · Increase productivity; and · Create a respectful and professional work environment.
The decision to take a proactive approach to train employees will save employers money in the long run. For more information on the new law requiring sexual harassment prevention training, please review our newsletter entitled: Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Now Required By State Law. Who should be trained? The best way to head off inappropriate behavior in the workplace is to train all employees in the areas of preventing harassment, discrimination and retaliation. This will demonstrate an employer's good faith commitment to anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies. In addition, managers should receive specialized training in areas such as: · Managing leaves of absence · Employee recruitment and selection · Workplace investigations.
Managers can be held personally liable for sexual harassment in the workplace and need the knowledge and tools that will enable them to comply with the law.
